LOCATION: Colonia Florestal, Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca de Juárez YEAR: 2016
During the course of 2016, the 3rd construction phase was carried out at OIDHO’s association in S. M. Atzompa, Oaxaca. On this occasion the project consisted in the realization of a nursery and an outside kitchen for the women of the association. Funds for the project were donated by Building Trust while the design and construction were in collaboration with Joana Torres. It is important to mention all the volunteers who participated in the realization of the project.
The new construction consists of a room that works as nursery, built with adobe walls, stone foundation, and roof of wood and tile. A second volume serves as an outdoor and covered kitchen for an existing clay oven. The kitchen is of floor of clay and reinforced metallic structure, the cover is of wood and tile. Both constructions are connected by a covered hallway, this in turn, helps to solve the slight slope of the terrain. The new building dialogues with the two previous interventions.
